Our Next Meeting, News & Notes for the Fall…


  •  The next gathering of the Capital Region Executive Director Peer Group will be held Friday, November 7th, from 8:30 to 10:00am at the NYCON Office in Menands. We will not have a dedicated speaker but instead will have a peer group discussion on Human Resource & Absence of Leave issues. We will also share some results from an older survey (2012) done by the Nonprofit Times as well as share info on their upcoming Salary & Benefits Survey, how you can participate and get a free Executive Summary of the New York data.  PLEASE RSVP HERE.
  • On a related topic, NYCON will finally be launching a Job Board – Free for Members Only. This will go live in November, prior to Membership Renewal for 2015. We’ll make sure to share the info with this group first  as I know many of you were looking for a free resource to post & share your openings!

·         The Albany Business Review is hosting “Give & Take” on Friday, October 24th from 7:30am to 9:30am at the Glen Sanders Mansion. This is their annual Partners in Philanthropy Breakfast and Seminar. Featuring NYCON CEO Doug Sauer as a speaker, this is a program that you will not want to miss, whether you are on the nonprofit or for profit side. It is also the launch of our annual Guide to Giving: Partners in Philanthropy publication that highlights the many organizations you and your team can be involved with and connect too. $40. ·         The Tech Valley Nonprofit Business Council is hosting Innovative Partnerships with Higher Education on Thursday, October 23 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Shaker Ridge Country Club with Keynote Speaker: Dr. Matthew Johnson, Academic Community Engagement Director, Siena College. About the event: Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the resources available to local nonprofits through our institutions of higher ED! This showcase event, featuring representatives from many of the area's college and university service learning programs, will provide community nonprofits with an opportunity to review the tremendous array of innovative services and deep partnerships available to them through local institutions of higher learning. ·         University at Albany’s  Nonprofit Community Engagement Series is happening on October 31, 2014. About the event: Fundraising for Social Change  8:00 am—12:30 pm $25/session; $45 for both 10/31 and 12/5 sessions; Light breakfast will be served. ·         SAXBST’s next “Fist to Five” Philanthropy & Nonprofits Meeting will be on November 12, 2014. Philanthropy in 2014 from 8am to 10am  at Wolfert’s Roost Country Club. REGISTER HERE. About the event: Not-for-profits face an ever-changing environment when trying to maximize fund-raising and charitable giving. This Fist-to-Five Series will feature an interactive panel of experts that will provide insight and practical advice on how not-for-profits can navigate the ever changing philanthropic landscape, explore new ideas, and maximize planning and resources.
